St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School Ripon

Computing

At St. Wilfrid’s we provide an exciting and engaging Computing curriculum which meets the national curriculum and aims to get the children ready to live in an increasingly digital world. Children have the opportunity to use technology in all areas of the curriculum. We aim to prepare our children to use computing technology skilfully and with confidence, both inside and beyond school to ensure that children are equipped to deal with computing technology safely and responsibly.

E -safety

In a world which is becoming increasingly reliant on everyday use of technology, at St. Wilfrid’s we want to show children how to keep themselves safe online. As we recognise this is such an important issue, the first unit of each academic year will focus on E-safety and we be revisited throughout the year when starting new topics. As a school we also take part in ‘safer internet day’ (February each year).

All staff in our school are aware on issues around technology and use computing lessons as well as assemblies to help children build knowledge and develop skills to deal with issues such as:

  • cyberbullying
  • social media
  • gaming
  • downloading safely
  • use of apps
  • networking
  • locational devices
  • security
  • online presence
  • screen time and technology usage

We also try to highlight such issues to parents through our school newsletter.
