Wellbeing
Good mental health and wellbeing is more than just the absence of illness. It is about “feeling good and functioning well”.
Our aim is for all our pupils, staff and community to have the support they need in order to flourish within our caring Christian community. This includes provision for mental health and emotional well-being. Good levels of wellbeing enable us to feel motivated and engaged; it offers us resilience to life’s challenges and provides us with the tools to lead a healthy and happy life.
‘Mental health is as important to a child's safety and wellbeing as their physical health. It can impact on all aspects of their life, including their educational attainment, relationships and physical wellbeing.’ NSPCC
A Whole School Approach to Promoting Positive Mental HealthWe take a whole school approach to promoting positive mental health that aims to help pupils become more resilient, be happy and successful and prevent problems before they arise. This encompasses the following aspects:
We also recognise the role that stigma can play in preventing understanding and awareness of mental health issues and aim to create an open and positive culture that encourages discussion and understanding of mental health issues. We aim to be a ‘talking school’ with an ‘Open Door Policy’.
